caplanArthur Caplan, PhD. is the Emanuel and Robert Hart Professor of Bioethics, Chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and the Director of the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania.  Selected by Discover magazine as among the “10 most influential people in science,” Caplan is the author and editor of 25 books and over 500 papers, including Smart Mice, Not So Smart People:  An Interesting and Amusing Guide to Bioethics. He has sorted through the ethical traps of science for the President of the United States, the United Nations, the National Institutes of Health and countless other organizations.  He is a tireless advocate and public educator on ethical issues in health care, and is highly regarded as an informative, persuasive and provocative speaker.
